Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the heart of Bilbao’s bustling Abando district, Swansea Cafetería Restaurante is a vibrant spot that seamlessly blends the warmth of a classic cafeteria, the lively atmosphere of a bar, and the satisfying experience of a traditional restaurant. This local gem is renowned for serving some of the city’s most authentic and mouthwatering Spanish specialties, with a particular spotlight on their exceptional tortilla de patatas.

From the moment you step inside, the lively ambiance immediately draws you in. The space hums with a friendly energy as locals and visitors alike gather to share good food and conversation. The air is filled with the enticing aroma of freshly cooked pintxos and sizzling dishes, inviting you to indulge your senses in true Basque culinary delight.

What truly sets Swansea apart is its mastery of the tortilla de patatas—a dish that, by reputation and rave reviews, here reaches new heights. Customers consistently praise this classic Spanish omelet for its perfect balance of fluffy eggs, tender potatoes, and a subtle, savory richness that lingers on the palate. It’s no surprise that diners come specifically for this dish; one enthusiastic patron even declared it the best tortilla they’ve ever had, highlighting both its exquisite flavor and excellent value.

Beyond the famous tortilla, Swansea offers an array of affordable and delicious pintxos, coffees, and bocadillos that capture the spirit of casual and satisfying Spanish dining. The menu is designed to please a wide range of palates without compromising on quality. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal, you’ll find yourself immersed in a truly authentic experience.

While the restaurant’s popularity means it often bustles with activity—testament to its immense local appeal—this vibrant atmosphere only adds to the charm. Though it may sometimes be challenging to flag down a waiter during peak hours, the prompt, warm service and amazing food easily make up for it.

For anyone visiting Bilbao, Swansea Cafetería Restaurante is an unmissable culinary stop. Its unbeatable combination of superb traditional dishes, lively setting, and friendly service offers an authentic taste of Basque hospitality that stays with you long after your last bite.

Nice place and the food is great. Prices are reasonable. The biggest issue is that the place is always busy, so there are a lot of people and it can be hard to get a waiter. The price for tortillas, coffees and bocadillos on two persons was somewhere around 15-16€

We're from Taiwan, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and polite. We went twice during our trip, and if we had more time and a bigger stomach, I'd love to try everything!

Food was plentiful and delicious. The place was very busy with only 1 waitress/counter staff...she could not do more for us. Extremely friendly and patient with my attempt at Spanish. Like others have mentioned, its a very busy place not somewhere to relax and chat. We will definitely go again while we are here.

Perfect for a good quality and quick breakfast. One of the few places open on a Sunday morning, which meant it was quite busy. However, the service was faultless. Had the spanish omelette and a range of sandwiches, which were all made fresh. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend.
